With bags in hand, we began our three month European adventure in the city of Milan. Ciao!

We arrived to find the city in the midst of preparations for the 2015 World Expo. Milan would prove to be a much busier city when we returned three months later for our flight home. For now, we enjoyed the buzz and excitement of the host city before the crowds descended.

Our hotel was in the city center and the area we stayed in didn’t have the cramped, closed in feeling you can sometimes experience in the older cities. We had no trouble finding a green space to enjoy the fragrance and color of Spring.

Before we left the U.S., we booked a walking tour which included a jaunt through the high-end shopping district, a visit to the Milan Cathedral (Duomo), the Sforza Castle and a viewing of The Last Supper – in addition to avoiding long lines and providing access, the tour guide supplies interesting information and local flavor. Impressionante!

It wasn’t long before we said “Ciao” to Milano. Our spirits were calling for more adventure and our boots itched for the trail. Quickly, we boarded the train to The Cinque Terre!
